Touchscreen no more

I bought a used XV6700 cell phone a couple months back. I have been mostly happy with the switch from phone to phone/pda combo. The slide-out keyboard is sized well, even for my meaty thumbs. Windows Mobile works surprisingly well, especially with my various email accounts. But I hate the touchscreen. The phone seems to be great at everything — except making phone calls.

I’ve been leaning towards giving up on it. But before I could resell the thing on ebay, I went and shattered its LCD screen. Last night while I was out with some friends, I slipped my keys into the same pants pocket as the phone. This morning I pulled it out and found a spider web of cracks covering the entire screen, and the touchscreen no longer works.

Poop.

I just picked up a PDA phone and breaking the screen is my biggest fear. I’m considering getting a belt holster, but I don’t want to become an Office Batman.

I am really happy with the Cingular 3125; it’s a Windows Mobile 5 device, SmartPhone, so no touchscreen to worry about, and it’s a “clamshell” design so the screen is a more protected.

No keyboard, though; if you like writing emails, it could be a tough transition.

No bat-phone or smart-phone for me, I’m stuck with my old clamshell cellie for a while.
